Yesterday was the first time in my life that i join a national level competition,which is the Sunway A-Level Math And Logic Challenge 2008,held in Sunway College.before the big day i was damn nervous and keep on study my additional mathematics as i heard my teacher say the A-Level's maths is just like our add math.well,things don't always turns out the way you want them to...
On that very morning,as usual,i went to school and in fact,i went earlier because Pn Tasminah ask to.wait outside the school for about 5 minutes before the teacher came.Pn Tasminah arrive at sharp 7am.but one of the participant,Alba had not arrive yet so i and the 3rd pasticipant,Yu Qian wait in teacher's car while teacher went into the school to see whether he waas inside the school.after about 15 minutes only he came,with the reason that he don't know where is his uniform and he can't find it.*swt*...
anyway,we depart to sunway at 7.20 am.all along the journey i was worrying that will we get there in time for i knew there will be terrible traffic jam at the kl town before 9am,while sunway is one of the busy place,and we,were suppose to reach there before 8.30am.but luckily at last we made it and reach there by 8.10.after breakfast we were lead to the multipurpose hall of sunway college.tables and chairs are arrange in the hall and i was told that there will be 77 school with 231 students participating in this competition.as you can imagine,the hall was fully packed.our school's team got the front place of the role,which is C001,C002 and C003.i got C003,which is the third.settle down on my seat and i start to wonder around.the school beside us is from ipoh.a few seats behind me sat the team from SMK Yu Hua.
Then,the supervisor of this program,a wise looking lady starts to talk in front of the hall.we fill in the attendance slip and the information space in our answer sheet under her guidance and after a short briefing,the test start at 9am.40 questions of objective.well,don't think it was easy when i say it's objective questions,'coz it's NOT!!!all the questions are like testing your logical thinking skill and it's a total different thing from the add math we've learn!!now i know what A-Level math like. and the important part was,you gain 2 marks for any correct answer and REDUCE i mark for any wrong answer!!!! which means,you can't simply answer the questions and 'tembak' like you always do in exam because if it's wrong,you're dead.so after 1 hour when the time's up i've only filled in 20 answers.shame...
after a short break,we had second round,which was different from the first round that was individual test.second round was group work,which we compete inter-school.3 team members of the school sit together and will discuss the questions together.there are 20 questions,and we are given the questions one by one,after answering the previous one.they had the question paper stapled and only allows us to opqn it when the 1st bell ring,which means we can start doing the question,and need to stop when the second bell ring,which is 60-200 seconds later and write your answer on the A4 paper provided with marker pen and show it to the examiners.this is not just the matter of hard or easy,it's a matter of time too.sometimes you may know how to do,bt you are lack of time.we are actually racing with time.and all the questions are so tricky and some even complicated you can't even understand what they want.so in the end,miserably,we score only 4 out of 40 marks.REALLY SHAME...
after the test we wait in the hall while waiting the results to be count.while waiting they show us a slide show which teach you how to solve a multiple question between 2 two digits number within 3 seconds,division question and squared questions in 6 seconds.that was very useful and really save a lot of time.these are things that we will not learn in the secondary school class and perhaps it's in the pre-university syllabus.
finally,it's the prize giving time,obviously our school doesn't get any.they've got 10 prizes for the top 10 highest mark scorer which they make it 11 that day because there is a tie between 3 participants.the prize they will get is a medal.for inter-school winner,SMK Chung Hwa got the 1st prize,which include a trophy,a certificate,RM 500 and a trophy for the school,and most of all,the grand prize--FULL SCHOLARSHIP FOR A-LEVEL PROGRAM!!!that worth more than RM 10000!!!second and third prize will get partial scholarship,and cash as well.
in the way back we were talking all along.we talk about the quiz and the questines.anyway, eventhough i don't get any prizes i'm still glad that i went.though i was still a bit not happy 'coz i cant' enter the physics quiz,which i paid rm 10 for,but like i said just now,things don't always turns out tyhe way you want it to.at least,i gained experience and i get to go out from school!!!hahaha!!!!
